Chevrolet Epica (07 - 10)

This was Chevrolet’s first attempt at a large family saloon. It’s quite similar to the Ford Mondeo in terms of appearance and its big selling point is value for money. You’ll be hard pushed to find a family saloon with as much practicality, reliability, comfort and safety for such a reasonable price. In the saloon, you would easily fit up to five. There’s also a decent amount of space in the boot. The rear-most seating can fold down to increase the load space if necessary. There are two engines: a 2.0-litre 141bhp six-cylinder petrol and a 2.0-litre 124bhp turbodiesel. Both have impressive fuel economy, low CO2 emissions and a decent level of torque. In terms of driving, the Epica is a solid performer. The ride feels supple and smooth, which makes it comfortable on motorways and when driving over potholes etc. And there’s little noise from outside.

Look out for

•  There have been a few complaints that the suspension damages easily

What we like

•  Spacious and comfortable interior

•  Large storage capacity of the boot

•  Decent amount of standard kit

•  Ride quality is smooth and supple on the move

•  Nice and inexpensive to keep on the road

•  Not a bad looking car

What we don't like

•  It tends to roll excessively on corners
