Peugeot 3008 (09 - present)

This impacted immediately as Peugeot’s late entrant into the compact crossover market. It is basically four cars rolled into one; an estate, hatchback, SUV and MPV. The cabin and dash show what can be done and the space they managed to create throughout made this a favourite among Irish families. There’s plenty of head room and decent leg room in the back and acres of space in the front. It also has one of the best designed boots on the market with some clever touches.  As you’d expect from a Peugeot, the driving is up there with the best and this has the bonus of having a great driving position. You can pick from a decent range of engines – they have all been revised and reworked to cut fuel consumption and emissions.

Look out for

•  The handling of the 3008 will surprise a lot of people

•  Cleverly designed boot and tailgate

•  There are some excellent diesel engines

•  The price is reasonable and the cost of running is fairly low
